Luke Looking Forward

An adaptation of a photograph taken on New Years Eve, after a long hot walk on the Waterfront in Geelong. Out on the attenuator, leaning against the huge pylon, looking out to sea in a moment of contemplation.

I cropped the initial photo, played around in Lightroom and Photoshop to adjust the contrast, and added some digital drawing to create a sense of a street art aesthetic.

I attempted a digital transfer onto canvas using transfer paper - unsuccessfully!

However, I had come so far and liked where this was heading, so NO GIVING UP! I grabbed the acrylic paints and oil pastels and a couple of hours of focused painting on a 24 x 12 inch canvas board and felt like this was where I wanted it to be going. Next day added more light and shade, and re-created the loose scrawled text and scribbling with layers of paint and oil pastel. Hopefully not too obvious, some of the background text includes the words "Luke" "Look" & "Forward".

An unconventional composition has the subject looking out from the lower left of the canvas.

I have entered this piece (and another, "Love and Pride" into the Zart Art annual teachers art award). You can see all the entries on the link. If you like either of my pieces, feel free to vote in the public voting section

Love and Pride

Keep being creative! It can be an uphill battle some days, both in life and art, but if we do all things with kindness and love and take time for gratitude, the journey can be just that little bit gentler.
